                                    The Art of Gutai Association

Throught the year’s the most unique group of art that was well form and had their own way were the Gutai Art Association. In this group of people there were lots of artist involved, but the one who’s Identity came out the most for me was the work of Motonaga Sadamasa. For me painting is a way of expressing yourself. I think that is also, the art of using paint, either in a picture or as decoration or a painted picture: an oil painting. Paintings would be one of the reason why we have museum today, so that we can learn the history of painting and see how artist expressed themselves through paint back then.

Montonaga Sadamasa had I unique way of painting, when people saw he’s work they would be able to recognize it right away; this is called “IDENTITY”.  This painter uses the technique of water in his paintings that are different from other artist. A lot of people ask themselves why, did motonaga use water for his art and not stone. Well to be honest with all of you, one of the things that Montonaga said before dying was, that he got most of his inspiration from “Mother Nature”.

As for my point of view if we are dealing with Mother Nature, in the word “NATURE” the thing that we most use and see is water. As we humans use water to survive every day; Motanaga also, wanted his works of painting to survive after his death and so it did, and prove of that is in the Museum of Guggenheim. In one way that these notifications  of identity differed between the work of art that I choose is that he does uses the concept of water in his painting but he does not, really pick the color of the water ; what he does illustrate in his art work is movement like the water. This would be one of the differences, between them. One way that these amazing painting overlap were the ways the colors were arranged by and also, the ways the paintings showed the movement of one color to another.

In Sadamasa work you see, a lot of different colors, but if you look closer in to his paintings you would see that the light colors he used, he choose it because it dealt with Mother Nature. If we go deeper into the colors that he uses that are darker, if you are paying attention to his concept you can see that most of his painting with dark colors does carry the color of some different types of animals, which live in nature. His artist ways were so interesting that you can see his work of art in floors and in walls. One of his Art work stands in the floor is called the “Work Nail” this work represents for me history.  Second of his art work on wall is called “Work Green/ Red” this picture for me identifies culture.  Third of his art work is the “Oil and Gravel on Canvas” this embodies the idea of individual identity. I think that this mode of his art work embody his classification of identity, as personal and also, cultural in the way that he uses these colors, because are one of the beautiful colors that are used in japan and seen in dragons.  I would say that it also, embodies it historically because, through years of japans culture these colors has been used to paint most of japans dragons for parade.

In Conclusion, One of the most interesting groups of art where the Gutai Association. Also, the unique way that Montonaga Sadamasa use for his art work were, the technique of water inspired by Mother Nature.

Abstract Expression was an American Post- World War 2 art movement it increased little by little."It was the first especially American movement to achieve worldwide influence and put New York City at the center of the western art world, a role formerly by Paris".  American movement was the first to be stablish and be recognize in New Yor city; what this sentence is trying to say is that basically it hitted the most important country that would help the movement, move even more around the world. Abstract Expression for me is also, referred to as Gestural Abstraction, because its brush stokes revealed the artist process. This process reflects and reveals the artists process and is also the subject of the art itself.

"One of them is Harold Rosenberg who explained the work of art becomes an event for this reason he dubbed this movement Action paintings in 1952. His emphasis on action today is view as control vs. chance. Abstract Expresionism can be divided into two tendencies which are Action Painting and Color Field Painting". what this quote is basically saying is that the individual that promoted the movement was Harold  Rosenberg in that year. Also hes painting were separated into two different views wich are "Action paiting" which is the movement the picture is portrating to the viewer and "Coloring Field" which is how the use of coloring dark or light are used.  This movement of Abstract Expressionism evolved through the work of each individual artist througth decades of hard work. Generally speaking, each artist arrived at this style by the end of the year wich was 1940s and continued in the same manner to the end of this or her life. This type of style has remained alive well know  into the current century though its youngest practitioners and thanks to them it will continue as time passes by.

Final Topic

During the time of art class our professor has dedicated her time to teach us about art and other things, the artist that catch my view the most was Leonardo Da Vinci I found almost all of his art poses that are very intriguing to pose and to watch why, because their more than a pose, behind their meaning a story, and that what I found in almost all of his paintings.

One of his paintings that made a lot of significant to me was the portrait of the Mona Lisa I think that back then these painting made a lot of meaning, like for example they said that the Mona Lisa was the most beautiful women of them all, that it was considered one of the most interesting women beauty has ever seen; As you can see these why I picked Leonardo Da Vinci for my final topic.

Baroque Impact on Japan

Art 11

Baroque art is a style of art that had its origins in Italy in the late 1500s.The artist who created art in the Baroque style was attempting to convey movement, emotion, and energy in the simplest and most realistic methods possible.

Some of the Baroque artists that I was looking through the website of Google were Caravaggio, Rembrandt , and Heyden. Based on what I learned from the performance about Baroque style, began in 16th and lasted in some areas until 1750. One of the artist that they talked about was Bernini he chose the most dramatic moment to convey the event, which in turn created a dynamic, theatrical energized work which occupies our space. One of the most intriguing things that Baroque style has is that the images are direct, obvious, and dramatic; Tries to draw the viewer in to participate in the scene. Also depictions feel physically and psychologically real. Emotionally intense. Dramatic contrast between light and dark, light and shadow.

I must say that for me personally I think Baroque style uses the motion and clear, easily interpreted detail to produce drama, tensions and other things. I must say that for me this style is the best in paintings and in sculptures too. What is also very relevant in this style is that the popularity and success of the baroque was encouraged by the Catholic church when it decided that the drama of the baroque artists styles could communicate religious themes in direct and emotional involvement.

Paintings vs. Photograph

Art 11

Since 15 century photography and cameras have had an effect on paintings. The camera was made to produce an image of a scene and capture a more projected image. As we all know every time a new technology evolves there’s always that feeling that the new will substitute the old.

New technology brought preoccupation to many artist because they thought that their work would be no longer needed that the art of camera would be taking over their generation of paintings. But the truth is that it didn’t it only made painters realize something which was that no matter what paintings and camera are different because; I photograph may take a picture it only makes it more realistic, even though painting is not the same as a photograph; paintings are far more permanent than most photographs and more in color. Photographs can’t last as much as a painting. Definitely photography has had a huge impact on artist and changing the way we depict imagery. The introduction of photography has created this domino effect, from the early 1800s when the photograph was invented, developed the breakdown realism in art painting, drawing and sculpture.

That is one of the things that I learned from the video that we watch in class which was by John Berger’s TV “Ways of Seeing”. Also some landscape artist used two dimensional image of a scene to reproduce the perspective on their canvas and claimed to create art that was more true to life. Photography is not just a picture on a piece of paper it is used in movies, television, and in the newspapers.

"Arches"

Yeimi

                                “Arches”

In this peace of work, I am going to be explaining the differences between Roman and Gothic Arches in art.  Starting with the arches of roman theirs are rounded, and gothic are pointed.

In the construction of Gothic churches they, have many more windows and much bigger windows and so inside the church is not dark like Romanesque churches. Their style of building it is much more of a bigger church, with new style of roofs and with more supporting walls, especially the groin vault pointed and the flying buttress.  Many of you may ask what is a Vault is a roof build of stone; the shape is like a V, like were your legs come together. They also, used the Butter, which is basically a big pile of stone that keeps a building‘s walls from falling down, it worked for support of the structures.  While with this type of support churches like gothic ones could create bigger windows. As of Roman arch church, there was made with less support structure, because the churches were not that tall and because it was not very much support the windows were not made big. Once these churches were constructed at the end people that lived near or by the area of gothic churches had to pay a lot of taxes that were collected month after month, by the Pope. Know in places that roman arch churches were constructed, people that lived near or by that area did not had to pay so much taxes, as the gothic people, because during the Middle Ages, the most popular churches were the gothic ones.

Some people may ask themselves why artists invented gothic arches when they already had Roman arches. The answer to that question is really simple, the roman arch style is a rounded style and the type of vault roof, that they constructed was not that helpful in the sense that the roof was made out of wood, and when a fire occur the roof would burn down not giving enough support to the structure, the church would collapse, in a matter of minutes or even seconds.

Reading # 4

Yeimi
March 3, 2013.

I may say that I do like the ancient Greek better then ancient Egyptian sculptures; one of the reasons why I strongly choose the Greek is because, sculptors didn’t place their names on their works, so we have no idea who made them. In Greek sculpture we can see story behind the sculptures and also, se by whom it was made,

Also, one of the reason why I think that Greek sculptures are also, good is because, the materials that they used to make and build their sculptures were hard material like stone, marble, limestone, and clay  as these were abundant in Greek they had no problem getting it and using it over and over again to build. One of the process that they also used to achieve perfection in their way of building statue were the Geometric Art method, which is they made up formulas of math to make a perfect weight and also in leght in both arms so that one side wouldn’t be with much weight than the other side. I personally think that even though the “Greek works were similar to that of the Egyptians sculpture; the Greek works turn out to be better because, they made it their own. Example, some statues that were made, was sculpted by nude humans in a posing way. Even if some of their statue of god’s work were a little bit similar to the faces in the Egyptian, it was done in a unique style, with their own story behind each and every one of them.
